Avoid Sciatica Surgery With Chiropractic Care

Avoid Sciatica Surgery With Chiropractic Care in Memphis

Dynamic Chiropractic works with countless sciatica patients here in our Memphis office, and several of these men and women were afraid that they might need surgery to alleviate their pain. The latest research indicates that a large number of people don't need surgery for this common issue, and that chiropractic treatment is more successful at solving sciatic nerve discomfort.

A popular surgery for sciatica is microdiscectomy, and in a 2010 study, specialists examined 80 patients with sciatica who were referred for this operation.

Forty patients were then randomly sorted into one of two groups. The first group was to receive surgical microdiscectomy and the second group received chiropractic therapy.

Both groups got better; however, no noticeable difference in results was recorded one year post-treatment between either group. Additionally, roughly 60 percent of the participating subjects who could not find pain relief from any other treatment method "benefited from spinal manipulation to the same degree as if they underwent surgical intervention."

In other words, chiropractic treatment provided the same positive advantages as surgery without needing to go through the greater levels of surgery-based pain or suffer through drawn-out recovery times often affiliated with that type of treatment method. Plus, you also don't run the risks associated with surgical microdiscectomy, which includes nerve root damage, bowel or bladder incontinence, bleeding, or infection.
